Furnishing a Naples Second Home from Out of State: How the Process Works

Many of our Naples clients live in another state for part of the year, and they still want a home that is finished, furnished and styled when they arrive for the season. Here is how we take a Naples home from bare walls to move-in ready while you review every decision from wherever you are.

Start earlier than you think

For a new build, the best time to bring in an interior designer is before the builder’s selection deadlines begin, so lighting, paint, cabinetry hardware and tile are chosen as part of one design rather than one decision at a time. For a remodel, start before the contractor’s schedule is set. Custom upholstery, window treatments and lighting can take months to arrive, so beginning well ahead of season keeps your timeline intact.

How the process works

1. A free discovery call. We start with a complimentary 30-minute call by phone or video to talk through your home, your timeline and your budget, and to see whether we’re the right fit.

2. A consultation at the home. Next comes a paid, one-hour consultation where we walk through the space, discuss your goals and gather what we need to define the project scope.

3. A clear scope and agreement. We prepare a scope of work and service agreement, so you know exactly what’s included before design begins.

4. Design and approvals through our client portal. Floor plans, presentations, products and pricing are all shared in our online client portal. You review and approve every selection from anywhere, and we send regular updates as the project moves forward.

5. Ordering, delivery and installation. We order and track every item, coordinate furniture deliveries with our trades, and handle installation and final styling down to the art and bedding, so the home is furnished and ready when you arrive.

What to decide before you’re in town

A few early decisions make everything faster:

  • The overall style direction and the feeling you want the home to have

  • A working budget range

  • Which rooms are included now, and which can wait

  • Who your builder or contractor is, if you have one

Designing for life in Naples

Second homes on the Gulf need to stand up to salt air, humidity and strong sun, often while sitting empty for months at a time. We specify durable luxury materials, UV- and moisture-conscious textiles and finishes, and layouts suited to entertaining family and guests during the season.

At Nautilus Residence, a new-construction waterfront condominium in Naples, our clients worked with us remotely from start to finish. We added custom millwork, created a home office for two, and furnished every room down to the art and bedding. Read the full project story.
